This following continued efforts over the last 24 hours to rescue people trapped under the collapsed Orlando Power Station since Wednesday morning. Five men who were trapped under the rubble were rescued on Wednesday night. Another body will be removed today (Thursday).

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson, Nana Radebe said they were not ruling out the possibility that more people could be found under the rubble. The building collapsed early on Wednesday morning.

On Thursday morning a few men were arrested for trying to cash in on some of the metal and steel in the rubble. “K9’s were trying to find more people this morning but were disturbed by those trying to steal in the morning,” said warrent officer Kay Makhubela, SAPS spokesperson.

“We don’t know where they are selling these things,” he added. The police took the men in and are investigating.

The rescue operation continues now at the scene.
