“The NCSGB resolved to engage the national Department of Basic Education to increase the term of office of SGB’s from three to five years,” NCSGB secretary general Monokoane Hlobo said in statement.
“The election of SGBs are due to take place in March 2015.”
Hlobo said the decision was taken at the organisation’s policy and elective conferences.
He said such an extension of a term for a school governing body would cut costs for government in terms of election advocacy and bring stability and continuity in schools.
“We have started to engage other stakeholders, we are pleased to inform the public and media that most of the stakeholders agree with us at the level of national communication forum.”
