A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly woman in Gopane near Zeerust, North West police said on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the man was arrested on Tuesday, in Gopane.
Keitumetse Nkgothoe, 75, was murdered in her house on March 16, 2018.
“The old woman was taken to the clinic where she was certified dead. Consequent to that, members of the community took the law into their own hands and allegedly killed 25-year-old Lloyd Nkgothoe whom they accused of being responsible for the death of the old woman,” said Mokgwabone.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that at the time of the incident, the suspect was on parole after being sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in 2004, for house robbery. He is expected to appear in the Lehurutshe Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 31 May 2018 facing a charge of murder.”
He said seven people were arrested in connection with the murder of Nkgothoe, after their arrest community members waged a violent protest and three people were arrested for public violence.
Nkgothoe was allegedly forced by community members to hang himself on a tree.
