According to the report the investigation of Sharks Pty Ltd the company that manages one of the country’s most successful rugby franchises by auditing firm KPMG would look into how monies had been used to promote the franchise under former chief executive Brian van Zyl, the Sunday Tribune reported.
The report cited unnamed sources, but quoted the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union president Graham MacKenzie as saying: “I think we need to allow the auditors to do their job. There is certainly no intention of hiding anything.”
According to the report the investigation started 10 days ago.
Van Zyl was chief executive from 1994 until February this year when he retired and was replaced by former Springbok captain John Smit.
