Head-on collision in Krugersdorp leaves two critical

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.

Two women were left critically injured on Wednesday morning after a head-on collision between a bakkie and light motor vehicle on the M13 in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found a woman trapped inside a bakkie. The other injured woman was also stuck in her car.

“Both women were found to be in a critical condition and Rescue Services had to use specialised equipment to free both patients from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics treated both patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions,” said Meiring.

“During treatment, one of the critically injured vital signs rapidly diminished and paramedics immediately initiated CPR in an effort to revive the patient.”

Meiring said she was airlifted to hospital by a private medical helicopter.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
