14 hurt after taxi and luxury vehicle collide in Mnandi

Rescue services had to use the jaws of life equipment to free the patient from within the taxi.

Fourteen people were injured Tuesday morning, four of them critically, after a minibus taxi and an SUV collided head-on at the Lloyd Ellis and R114 intersection in Mnandi.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics and other emergency services arrived on the scene they found one person still inside the taxi.

Rescue services had to use the jaws of life equipment to free the patient from within the taxi.

Four people suffered critical injuries while 10 others had minor to moderate injuries, Meiring said. Paramedics treated them on the scene before they took them to hospital.

The critically injured patients where airlifted to nearby hospitals.
