A suspect in Bethelsdorp is under arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm and dealing drugs.

Port Elizabeth police on Tuesday arrested a 24-year-old suspect in Bethelsdorp for the illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and dealing in drugs.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said police members were patrolling in Esterhuizen Street, Arcadia, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when they spotted a man standing in front of a house.

Naidu said when the suspect spotted the police, he started to move into the garage. Police members reacted immediately and went after the suspect. Naidu said the suspect took a firearm from his pocket and threw it behind him. On searching the suspect, police found four mandrax tablets, two packets of khat, six packets of tik and cash in his pocket, Naidu said.
