Woman dies after being hit by car in North West

A woman, believed to be in her early 20s, was killed when she was knocked down by a car in Potchefstroom in the North West on Saturday afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived at Nelson Mandela Drive at about 4pm where they found the woman lying on the centre median of the dual carriageway, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.

“Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for her and she was declared dead at the scene.

A bystander, believed to be her brother, explained to paramedics that they were walking across the road when he tried to push her out of the way before the car hit her. However, the circumstances surrounding the accident would be investigated by the local authorities that attended the scene.

Two occupants of the car were assessed by paramedics and found to be uninjured, Vermaak said.
