The Grove Mall Centre Management and the South African Police Services (SAPS) are investigating after a group of five to seven men robbed a jewellery store and got away with jewels valued at an undisclosed amount on Thursday morning.

SAPS spokespersons Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the owner of the jewellery store managed to open fire at the group. He said the police suspected that one of the suspects were injured during the shooting.

“Our people are very alert and are aware of such incidents. There are no indications that members of the public or employees were injured,” Mavimbela said.

“It’s our responsibility as law enforcement agencies to ensure that people feel safe but we are saying people should be alert and aware and report any suspicious movement at malls immediately.”

Mavimbela added that there currently were no arrests made and the investigations continued.
