A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of Lieutenant-Colonel Phineas Marubini Mamatsiari, who was killed outside his home in Thohoyandou, Limpopo.
”The police task team made a breakthrough yesterday [Tuesday] and arrested a 32-year-old man. One firearm was recovered,” said spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.
”The suspect is positively linked to the murder of the Lt. Colonel, attempted murder of a Constable and robbing guards of firearms at four clinics in the Waterval area.”
Mamatsiari was shot and killed by two men at his Thohoyandou home on Sunday. He had just arrived from work when the two men opened fire on him before stealing the state vehicle the officer was travelling in.
The vehicle was found in the bushes on Monday.
”A manhunt for the second suspect and the tracing of the stolen firearms continues. The suspect will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrates’ Court on Thursday,” Ngoepe said.
