N2 near Strand still closed as result of protest action

The N2 highway between Sir Lowry’s Pass and Hazeldene, outside Cape Town, remained closed to traffic on Monday afternoon after protestors blocked the road with burning tyres.
 
Images on social media show people blockading the road with concrete slabs, destroying traffic lights, and burning tyres.
 
The protestors are reportedly unhappy with electrification in the area.
 
The City said so far 19 people have been arrested for public violence.
