Three people suspected of peddling drugs in Sunnyside, east of Pretoria CBD, were arrested on Wednesday, police said.
“Continuous scanning of the environment for security threats – coupled with a determination to create a safe and secure area for the locals and tourists alike – led to the capture of three suspected drug pushers in Sunnyside at about 5am this [Wednesday] morning,” said Sunnyside police spokesperson, Captain Daniel Mavimbela.
“While on patrol, the police reportedly noticed a suspicious looking motor vehicle with three occupants, parked at one of the local filling stations. A tactical approach towards the vehicle enabled the police to apprehend all three suspects following an alleged attempt to escape on foot.”
Mavimbela said police officers recovered dagga compressed in plastic covers, estimated to have a street value of about R100 000.
“The car in which the suspects were spotted, was impounded. It had a non-South African registration number on it. The citizenship status of the suspects is yet to be confirmed,” said Mavimbela.
Sources told African News Agency that the vehicle had Swaziland registration.
The trio – aged between 30 and 35 – will face charges of possession of dagga.
