Two children were killed when they were knocked down by a speeding motorist in Malamulele, Limpopo police said.

Police in Malamulele arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with a case of culpable homicide that occurred along the Xithlelani “public tarred road” on Friday afternoon, Captain Mamphaswa Seabi said.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that during rush hour a speeding sedan drove over two boys, both aged seven years old and doing grade one at Mahlahle Combined School.”

Children who witnessed the incident were severely traumatised and local social workers had to be called in to conduct counselling.

The arrested driver would appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“As police, we are making an appeal to all motorists to respect the traffic rules and to adhere to the stipulated speed limits,” Seabi said.
