ANC member in PE killed in suspected hit over tenders

No arrests have been made, and police are investigating a case of murder.

Port Elizabeth police in the Eastern Cape are probing the murder of an African National Congress (ANC) member in what is a suspected hit.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Mandisi Thando Xakaxa, 41, drove into his yard in Zwide after returning from a prayer meeting on Wednesday at around 20:30pm.

“His family, who was inside the house, heard a gunshot. When his father came out, he saw Xakaxa slumped in his car,” said Naidu.

Xakaxa sustained a bullet wound to his head.

Naidu said it was suspected that the motive may be related to tenders.

No arrests have been made, and police are investigating a case of murder.

ANC regional spokesperson Gift Ngqondi earlier said that Xakaxa was a branch leader from ward 25 in Zwide.
