Woman fighting for her life after high speed car crash in Durban, driver flees

Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 4pm to find the twisted remains of a Mercedes Benz in the road.

A 25-year-old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after she was critically injured in a high speed car crash on the M25 Kwamashu Highway in Durban on Sunday afternoon, after which the car driver apparently fled the scene, paramedics said.

Crisis Medical paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 4pm to find the twisted remains of a Mercedes Benz in the road, Crisis Medical spokesman Kyle van Reenen said.

The woman passenger was found lying in the road having suffered traumatic head injuries. Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise her before she was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll several times. The female passenger was ejected in the roll over. The driver could not be located and is alleged to have fled the scene,” Van Reenen said.
