Limpopo cops probe fire that gutted police barracks

A private vehicle was also burnt.

Police in Makhado near Thohoyandou are investigating the burning of local police barracks in the early hours of Saturday morning, Limpopo police said.

“It is alleged that the police officers who are residing in those barracks were awoken up by flames which covered this building and summoned the fire brigade and the police who reacted swiftly,” Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

The whole building was gutted and the residents’ belongings destroyed.

A private vehicle belonging to an officer was also damaged.

One officer sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the fire was still unknown but police investigations were ongoing, Ngoepe said.
