Former chief justice Sandile Nqcobo is expected to brief the media on Wednesday on the Competition Commission’s inquiry into the private health care sector.

Ngcobo, who heads the inquiry, would brief media about the investigation, the panel and make public the terms of reference of the inquiry.

In a statement on Tuesday, the commission said the panel’s mandate was to prove the likely causes of price increases and expenditures that tend to be above inflation in the private health care sector.

The inquiry would make recommendations on appropriate policy and regulatory mechanisms to support accessible, affordable, and quality private health care.

It would also make recommendations on whether price setting mechanisms may be acceptable within the competition policy context, the commission said.
