Free roadworthy tests for buses, taxis

Free roadworthy tests will be conducted on taxis and buses ahead of the Easter weekend, the Johannesburg metro police department (JMPD) said on Friday.

“This is a joint initiative by the JMPD, the Gauteng traffic police, and all other law enforcement agencies in Gauteng to ensure that the public transport vehicles are fully roadworthy,” said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

“The free tests will be done at the Randburg, Randfontein, Wadeville, Boksburg, Kempton Park, Mabopane and Wattville testing stations on April 16 and 17,” said Minnaar.

Metro police would be out in full force over the Easter weekend.

“There will be roadblocks on all main roads and freeways leading [from] Gauteng to other provinces.

“Unroadworthy buses and taxis will be fined and impounded,” Minnaar said.
