A man was killed and 22 other people injured Sunday evening after two minibuses and light motor vehicle collided on the R546 outside of Secunda in Mpumalanga, ER24 paramedics said.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the incident was spotted while some paramedics were on their way to another call.
“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found that two minibuses and a light motor vehicle had collided. One minibus and light motor vehicle was found in the road while the second minibus was found a short distance away on the side of the road.”
Meiring said the light motor vehicle was inspected and a man was found lying trapped inside.
“Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead.
“Two other men were found in the same vehicle, both in a critical condition. A third critically injured man was found in one of the other minibuses.”
Meiring said the patients were extricated, before being treated and provided with life support interventions.
“Twenty others were found from both minibuses. Assessment showed that the injuries sustained ranged from minor to serious.”
The patients were treated and also provided with advanced life support interventions, before being transported to various hospitals including Mediclinic Highveld for further treatment.
“One of the critically injured patients was airlifted by the ER24 OnePlan Helicopter to a nearby hospital,” said Meiring
The details surrounding this incident were not immediately known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
