Four men arrested for murder in Joburg

Four men were arrested on Thursday at about 5.30pm after police received a tip-off.

Four men were arrested for murder and attempted murder in a bush near the N17 and Wemmer Pan road in Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Friday.

Police spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele, said that the four men, aged between 22 and 32, were arrested on Thursday at around 5.30pm after police received a tip-off.

“It is alleged that suspects shot eight victims at Booysens squatter camp on the 12th of May 2017. They are also linked to the murder that occurred on the 30th of May 2017 around the dumping site, where a 30-year old victim was shot several times and stabbed with a knife,” Mbele said.

“He was declared dead on the scene. When police cornered them in the dumping site; they ran into the bush and started shooting at the police. Through the help of the Dog Unit all four of them were apprehended. Three illegal firearms and ammunition were recovered.”

He said the firearms were reported as stolen on May 24, March 9, while another was stolen in Kempton Park on September 6, 2005.

The four men are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on June 5.
