According to paramedics, the driver of the overturned Hyundai H1 had to be extricated by rescuers on the scene after being trapped inside the vehicle.

A man was critically injured and three others sustained moderate injuries when two vehicles collided at the R55 and Wierda Road intersection in Centurion in Pretoria early on Saturday morning, paramedics said.

Shortly before 5am, paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the scene where they found a Hyundai H1 on its side, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.

“A second vehicle was found a few metres away. The driver of the overturned Hyundai H1 was still trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by rescuers on [the] scene. Once freed, they found that he sustained several severe injuries. Three other people were treated on the scene for moderate injuries.”

The injured were transported to Kalafong Hospital for further treatment. The cause of the crash was not yet known, he said.
