All survive capsised Shelley Beach boat

Shelly Beach – All who were aboard the 27-foot ski-boat ‘Big Mama’ when she overturned at the Shelly Beach Ski-boat base early this morning have been accounted for.

It appears the boat suddenly turned sideways into a wave and flipped. Bystanders say lifesaver Wayne Marsh’s strong swimming ability saved at least two of the stricken passengers.

A number of people aboard the boat, including skipper Jan Olivier, were taken to hospital. Although some were suffering from near-drowning symptoms, it appeared there were no serious injuries. The boat washed up in the shorebreak just north of the ski-boat clubhouse and is slowly breaking into pieces.
