North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has arrived at the Taung sport grounds, where he will deliver the State of the Province Address (Sopa) later on Friday.
Mahumapelo arrived, flanked by speaker of the North West legislature Sussana Dantjie. A giant white tent was pitched at the centre of the sport ground where Mahumapelo was set to deliver his speech.
The crowd ululated as Mahumapelo entered the tent. Residents from various districts of the province have been bused in to attend the event.
Mahumapelo was expected to unveil the provincial government’s plans to grow the local economy, pointing out strategies aimed at inculcating a culture of entrepreneurship among the communities and developing the province’s 759 villages, townships and small dorpies when he delivers the Sopa.
The state of the province address had been held at different districts in recent years, with Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District being the fourth district.
The initiative was aimed at elevating the provincial leadership’s programme of taking Parliament to the people, while at the same time, boosting efforts to grow the local economy and unleashing the local businesses’ potential to host big events.
