Fatality at Harmony’s Masimong mine

Harmony management expressed condolences to ‘all affected by this tragic loss’ and said an investigation was under way.

Harmony Gold Mining Company said on Wednesday there had been a fatality at its Masimong mine in Welkom, in the Free State.

The company said the employee, a stope team member with close to 14 years of mining experience, had been killed in a scraper-related incident. All scraper-related operations had been stopped until further notice, and a safety shift had been declared.

Harmony management expressed condolences to “all affected by this tragic loss” and said an investigation was under way.
