Bangladeshi man shot dead in F State robbery

The motive for the killing is still unknown, and a case of murder has been registered for further investigation.

A Bangladeshi national was shot dead during a robbery of a store in Saaiplaas, in Virginia, in the Free State, police said on Monday.

According to police, on Sunday at about 7pm, two unknown males entered the store, threatened the employees with a firearm and demanded money from the 25-year-old victim, identified only as SM Sakil.

“They allegedly pulled the till drawer and found it to be full of coins, after which one of the suspects allegedly fired a shot and hit Sakil,” Free State police spokesperson Sergeant Mamello Mokhuoane said. “The suspects then fled the scene without taking anything from the store.”

Mokhuoane said the other employees had managed to hide at the back of the shop during the incident.

Sakil was declared dead on the scene.

“The motive for the killing is still unknown and a case of murder has been registered for further investigation,” Mokhuoane said. “Anyone with information should please contact Detective Warrant Officer Lesole Monye at 082084 2401.”
