Two men were killed and a third critically injured following a collision in Boksburg, near Johannesburg, on Sunday evening.
According to ER24, a car rear-ended a bakkie at the N12/R21 split in Boksburg on Sunday evening.
ER24 spokesperson Russell Meiring said paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene to find the bakkie lying in the emergency lane of the road while the light motor vehicle was found on the right side of the highway.
“Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the bodies of two men lying in the highway,” Meiring said. “Paramedics found that one man had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.
“Paramedics assessed the second man and found that his vital signs were rapidly diminishing, having sustained numerous injuries.”
Meiring said paramedics immediately began treatment and initiated numerous advanced life support interventions. However, they were unable to save him and he was declared dead on the scene.
A third man was also found on the scene and he was assessed by paramedics and found to have sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.
“Paramedics treated the man and provided him with several advanced life support interventions before he was transported to a nearby provincial hospital for further care.”
Meiring said it was believed that the men may have pushing their bakkie from the fast lane across the highway when the accident occurred.
Local authorities were on the scene to investigate further.
