Four people were killed in a head-on-collision on the R56 between Steynsburg and Middelburg in the Eastern Cape on Saturday morning.

Provincial traffic department deputy director Charles Bramwell said the accident occurred at around 5am when a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Yaris collided.

Four adults who were travelling in the Toyota Corolla died on the scene and a 12-year-old child, who was the only survivor in the vehicle, was taken to hospital. Bramwell said the five people in the Toyota Yaris survived but sustained serious injuries.
