Limpopo police flying squad officers made a breakthrough in Seshego, Polokwane, when they followed up on a tip-off from members of the community about counterfeit cigarettes at a house in Extention 76, police said on Saturday.
The officers reacted swiftly in locating the house and searched it on Friday night, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.
A 36-year-old man was arrested and 1720 boxes of “Pacific” cigarettes with an estimated value of R258 000 were confiscated. A Nissan bakkie believed to be used in transporting the cigarettes was also confiscated.
The man would appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon and investigations were continuing, Ngoepe said.
