A 26-year-old woman was shot and killed during a domestic-violence-related incident at GaMoloi village in the Nebo policing area, in Limpopo, Bosveld Review reports.

According to a statement issued by Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the incident, between the victim and her 53-year-old boyfriend, took place on Sunday at about 9pm.

“It is alleged a quarrel ensued between the two, whereby she fled to a neighbour’s house. The boyfriend, who was in ‘hot pursuit’, shot her. She died instantly,” explained Mojapelo.

The boyfriend was later found in the house he and the deceased shared, and he had allegedly shot himself.

It is believed the boyfriend, who is from Ndzhelele in the Vhembe district, had a protection order issued against the woman. This happened after he was allegedly retrenched from work.

The firearm used during the incident is licensed and belongs to him, added Mojapelo.

A case of murder and inquest is being investigated, he concluded.

“We would like to call on all our communities to stop resorting to murder and acts of violence when faced with domestic-related problems. There are free services that offer assistance to anyone who finds himself/herself in similar situations, Mojapelo stated.
