Update: Second suspect in Poppie murder case allegedly arrested

Various rumours have since surfaced regarding alleged sexual, mental and physical abuse of Poppie and her brother.

A reliable source informed the Randfontein Herald that the mother of the murdered three-year-old, Poppie van der Merwe, was arrested on Thursday afternoon.

YOU further reported that North West police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Pelonomi Makau confirmed the arrest and it is expected that the woman will appear in court on Monday.

It is alleged that she will face a charge of murder.

Poppie’s stepfather is already in custody for her murder.

December 15, 11.54am:

A second suspect involved in the murder case of three-year-old Poppie van der Merwe will allegedly be arrested today, Thursday, December 15, Randfontein Herald reports.

According to a reliable source, the person is to face a charge of murder.

Poppie died of her injuries on the way to the hospital in Brits.

Kobus Koekemoer, her stepfather, was arrested soon after her death and has appeared numerous times in the Brits Magistrates’ Court and is still in custody.

Various rumours have since surfaced regarding alleged sexual, mental and physical abuse of Poppie and her brother. Pornographic material was also allegedly found.

The Herald is aware of the identity of the suspect due to be arrested but cannot reveal it yet because of the legalities associated with the situation.
