Carjacker arrested in KZN with unlicensed firearms

Two suspects managed to flee the scene, and a 33-year-old suspect was arrested.

A carjacking suspect has been arrested in KwaZulu-Natal and will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court, police said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said on Sunday night at about 9.14pm, the victim was dropping off his friend along Belmont Road, Greenwood Park area, when he was accosted by three suspects armed with firearms.

“At gunpoint they took his white Hyundai I20 vehicle and fled the scene.”

Mbhele said within few minutes the members of the Durban K9 Unit acted on information received, and they spotted the said vehicle along the Queen Nandi Drive and followed it.

During the car chase, the carjackers smashed the stolen car into another one along the R102.

“Two suspects managed to flee the scene, and a 33-year-old suspect was arrested. Two unlicensed firearms with ammunition were found in his possession,” said Mbhele.
