Hijackers strike when woman stops to inspect ‘flat tyres’

Occupants of Citi Golf allegedly pointed out to the victim while driving past that she had a ‘flat tyre’.

A woman was assualted during a hijacking on Grootvlei Road in Grootvlei, Mpumalanga, on Sunday, Springs Advertiser reports.

The driver of the blue Jeep Cherokee was stopped by the driver of a black Citi Golf at 2.10pm.

Springs police spokesperson Captain Johannes Ramphora said the driver of the Jeep claimed the four occupants of the Citi Golf pointed out, while driving past, that she had a flat tyre.

As soon as the driver of the Jeep stopped, she checked all the tyres, but was surprised when she was approached by the occupants of the Citi Golf.

Ramphora said the suspects pushed the woman to the ground.

Two of the suspects got into the Jeep and drove away.

They were followed by the Citi Golf.

“Inside the vehicle was the woman’s cellphone and her wallet containing an undisclosed amount of cash,” said Ramphora.

Police are investigating a hijacking case.
