The Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) is increasing its visibility in the city and surrounding areas.

This strategy has been implemented in a bid to increase the unit’s law enforcement efforts over the festive season.

TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the unit would ensure highly visible road policing, by-law enforcement and crime prevention throughout Tshwane, focusing on reducing fatal accidents, drug and substance abuse and infrastructure theft.

“They have already arrested 123 people on the N14 highway for pedestrian source of danger,” Mahamba said.

“They also arrested four males aged between 35 and 45 in Sunnyside for cable theft.”

This brought the tally of those arrested for cable theft in the past two weeks to 29.

“Members also arrested five people in Laudium for dealing and possession of drugs.”

The TMPD would also focus on speed limit violations and illegal pedestrian movement on highways.
