Fourteen families were left without their homes after the fire, whose cause is still unknown.

About 14 shacks burned down at the Pipeline Informal Settlement in Kya Sands after a fire broke out at about 1am on November 18, leaving 14 families destitute, Fourways Review reports.

Head of communications at Douglasdale Police Station Captain Mpho Kgaosane said: “The fire happened in the early hours of that morning, and the cause of the fire is still unknown at the moment.”

“Fire emergency services arrived on the scene and doused the flames. No one was reported injured or dead,” he advised.

Kgaosane urged members of the community not to leave any fire, including candles, unattended, as this would result in fires that could endanger innocent lives.
