A Pretoria woman is missing after her car was found in the Apies River near the low-water bridge at Es’kia Mphahlele and Flower streets in Pretoria.
Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said the emergency workers were trying to pull the car from the river.
He said they hoped to find the woman inside the car. If she was not in it they would have to search the river farther down towards the north.
The Apies River flows through Pretoria. Pieterse said they had also assisted in pullinging three cars out of deep water pools due to the floods.
At the Boardwalk Meander Estate, east of Pretoria, a wall was knocked down by heavy rains and hail. Trees branches and debris were spread everywhere.
City of Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo told The Citizen a great deal of Pretoria was in darkness last night after lighting struck two power stations, but power was restored to 98% of the affected areas.
“The two percent are individual households who are still without electricity, but we are attending to it,” said Mashigo.
