KZN multiple robber in court

The man KwaZulu-Natal police suspect is behind a spate of robberies in the province that targeted several supermarkets, pension pay points and liquor outlets, appeared yesterday at the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court after being nabbed following a shootout with police in Ntuzuma, north of Durban.

Siyanda Mhlongo, 33, who is facing charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicenced firearm, appeared in court under heavy police guard, where his case was postponed to March 5 for a bail application.

Mhlongo, who police accuse of opening fire at them shortly before his arrest, was nabbed on Friday after a tip-off about his whereabouts.

“Information received indicated that the suspect was in a black VW Golf and police spotted the vehicle with two occupants,” KZN police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said.

Mhlongo, along with a yet-to- be-named accomplice, was later arrested by police.
