Advocate Dali Mpofu arrived at the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Palm Ridge ahead of the urgent bail application for student activist Mcebo Dlamini.
Dlamini was arrested in his student residence at Wits University last month during the height of the #FeesMustFall protest action that gripped several universities across the country, including Wits. Dlamini was denied bail on several occasions.
Several protesting students described the arrest of one of their own as an apartheid tactic used by the current government to silence the #FeesMustFall movement.
The student protests, which were at times also marred by violence, were sparked by an announcement by Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande that it was up to universities to determine tuition fee increases. Protesting students have made it clear that they wanted free education for all.
Meanwhile, also seen arriving at court on Tuesday morning, was advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, who was also trending on Twitter during the whirlwind surrounding the recent report on state capture.
