Student activist Mcebo Dlamini, who was arrested at the height of the #FeesMustFall protest action, is again expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
He was arrested at his student residence at Wits University last month and charged with, among other things, public violence.
Dlamini has on several occasions been denied bail since his arrest. Already in front of the entrance of the South Gauteng High Court, sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court, police officers could be seen ahead of Dlamini’s court appearance.
Several police vehicles, including a police nyala (armoured vehicle ) were also spotted. Mcebo’s arrest happened in the wake of protests by students from various universities who are demanding free education.
The protests were sparked by an announcement by Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande, that it was up to universities to determine tuition fee increases.
Meanwhile, students from Wits are also expected to come and offer their support to Dlamini in court.
