The deceased is believed to have been in the back of the bakkie and was ejected on impact.

A man was killed and seven other people injured in a collision between a bus, a bakkie and a car in Durban on Friday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the accident happened near the intersection of Richmond and Milky Way roads.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the bus sideswiped a BMW before colliding into the side of a Bantam Bakkie,” Botha said.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing Harduth said when paramedics arrived at the scene, the bakkie was found five metres down an embankment while the bus and the BMW were still on the road.

The man, who died, is believed to have been in the back of the bakkie and was ejected on impact. He was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Botha said the injuries ranged from serious to minor. The seven injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
