A security officer was shot during an attempted cash-in-transit robbery in Nasrec in the south of Johannesburg on Thursday morning.

The injured officer fled the scene and drove to a garage after the Xavier road off-ramp on the M1 North where Emer-G-Med paramedics attended to his injuries.

“On arrival paramedics found that the officer had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was in a critical condition,” said Emer-G-Med spokesperson Max Cohen.

He said the patient was stabilised before being rushed to Netcare Milpark Hospital for urgent specialist care.
