A group of people burned the house at about 9pm on Monday.

A mob has burnt down the house of a man believed to be a member of a housebreaking syndicate in Hammanskraal, just outside Tshwane, Pretoria North Rekord reports.

Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the mob burned down the house at about 9pm on Monday in Mmotla.

“Residents suspected the owner was also involved in a number of robberies in their community,” said Moremi.

The man and his family were not home.

The drama started when the homeowner was fingered in the murder of two people in Moeka village on Sunday morning.

“It is alleged the man, Steven Chauke, 33, was part of a gang that committed the crime,” he said, adding that the gang had escaped.

No arrests had yet been made, and a case of arson is being investigated.

“Everything inside the house was reduced to ashes,” said Moremi.
