Trains were delayed by about 45 minutes.

The incident occurred at the Longdale Station, Industria. Picture: Westside Eldos.

All trains running between Dewildt and Pretoria stations were delayed this morning after the derailment of empty coach T9911 when it overshot the end of the platform.

Four coaches are off the tracks, and one motor coach is completely on the ground.

Gauteng Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokoeng said the train personnel did not suffer any injuries.

“A Metrorail technician team are on the scene to assess the extent of the damage on the infrastructure and to clear the derailed train.

“Single line working has been introduced between Dewildt and Rosslyn stations. Trains are delayed by approximately 45 minutes,” Mofokeng said.

She added a board of inquiry would be instituted to determine the cause of the derailment.

“Metrorail apologises for the inconvenience caused and requests commuters to seek alternative transport, if possible, while the technical team works to clear the scene,” Mofokeng said.
