It was discovered the woman who allegedly faked her own kidnapping was the one who ‘kidnapped’ a 14-year-old girl.

Berdine Jordaan was arrested on Wednesday after a police investigation led authorities to Musina, in Limpopo, where she, her five-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old girl were found hiding in a cupboard in a house, said the provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Matimba Maluleke.

“The 29-year-old alleged victim was questioned, and it was discovered that there was no kidnapping; instead, she was the one who kidnapped the 14-year-old girl. The reason is still unclear,” Maluleke said.

The 29-year-old ‘kidnapping victim’ appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 1, on charges of perjury, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.

The case has been postponed to August 8 when the accused will apply for bail.

Maluleke on Sunday said: “We received information from the victim’s husband in Polokwane that his 29- year-old wife, daughter, 5, and a 14-year-old girl were kidnapped by unknown people in Ladanna on Wednesday, July 27.”

“As the investigation continued, it led the police to a certain house in Musina. The house was searched and the three alleged victims were found hiding in the cupboard,” he said.
