“The case docket was discussed with the senior State prosecutor and referred to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision,” acting provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba told reporters in Johannesburg.
“Both case dockets, the attempted murder charges opened against the members of the [SA Police Service] as well as the attempted murder charges against Khuli Chana is at the office of the DPP for a decision.”
Mothiba said police were expecting a decision to be made soon.
Police shot at Chana, whose real name is Khulane Morule, in his car when he allegedly failed to stop at a roadblock they had set up at a petrol station on the N1 in Midrand on October 28. Chana was hit in the hand and back.
Police had been searching for a group of men who had kidnapped a Bedfordview, Johannesburg, businessman. The ransom money was to have been left at the petrol station.
A police officer has since been arrested and charged with the kidnapping.
Last month, Chana’s management company said police should compensate the hip-hop musician for missing a performance after he was shot and wounded.
