Police said on Wednesday that they had built a solid case against local hip-hop star Khuli Chana.

This was revealed during a briefing by the SA Police Service in Parktown on the progress of a number of high profile cases and violent protests in Gauteng.

Acting Gauteng provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba said that the investigation into the Chana case has been finalised and handed over to the Senior State Prosecutor.

Chana, whose real name is Khulane Morule,  was shot and injured by police after failing to stop and trying to run from uniformed police in Midrand last year.

Mothiba also said that a number of developments in the murder case of Lieutenant General Tirhani Maswanganyi had been made.

“On January 9, a fifth suspect was arrested in connection with the late General’s murder. The suspect was placed on the court roll, and will appear in the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court on February 21,” said Mothiba.

Regarding protests in Bronkhorstpruit yesterday and other areas in the province recently, Mothiba said 39 people were arrested.

“They are to appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after torching a satellite police station, a municipal building and a library,” said Mothiba.
