Woman arrested at CT airport with R1.1m in drugs

The woman had 5kg of tik hidden in her suitcase. But not hidden well enough, clearly.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested at Cape Town International Airport on Thursday after drugs worth over R1 million were found in her possession.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said the woman was was arrested at 8.30am.

“The suspect was on a flight from OR Tambo to Cape Town International Airport,” said Rwexana.

“Police from [the] syndicate crime investigations [division] of Border Police conducted random searches and inside a suitcase of the 34-year-old woman they found 5kg of tik hidden among clothing.

“The estimated street value is R1.125 million. The woman was arrested and will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday 18 July on charges related to dealing in drugs.”
