It is believed four bikers were riding together when one of them lost control and slid into oncoming traffic.

A couple was killed in a motorcycle accident on the Old Johannesburg Road in Centurion, Gauteng, on Thursday evening, Centurion Rekord reported.

Emer-G-med spokesperson Braam Kruger said George Frederik Theodorus Kloppers, 34, and his girlfriend Tanya Kotze van Schalkwyk were found dead on the scene at about 11pm.

“It is alleged that four bikers were riding together on the Old Johannesburg Road when one of the bikers lost control, sliding into oncoming traffic,” said Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma.

She said a case of culpable homicide was opened for investigation.

On Friday, Rekord spoke to the mother of Kloppers, Sonia Viljoen, who described her son as an outgoing person with a loving heart.

Viljoen said she was informed by her daughter Suzel that Kloppers had died.

“The people at the scene tried to contact me but could not get through. One of the towing truck guys knows my daughter (Suzel). He called with the bad news,” Viljoen said.

Viljoen said she was still in shock and the reality of her son’s death had not yet sunk in.

“My heart is sore for my son’s death but it is even more painful for Tanya’s children who now have to live without a mother,” she sobbed.

Kloppers will be laid to rest during a cremation ceremony next week.

He is survived by his 18-month-old daughter Lexie, his parents and his two sisters, Tlarissa and Suzel Kloppers.

Kotze van Schalkwyk is survived by her three children, NC, 4, Tlarissa, 11, and Brian, 16.
