Federal chairperson of the DA Wilmot James has rubbished media reports suggesting parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko was ready to do battle for her current position with presidential candidate Mamphela Ramphele after the coming general elections.

Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, Wilmot said the report was an exaggeration.

“Mazibuko has been doing a sterling job and whether she will run for the same position again after the elections or not, is uncertain at the moment.

“She (Mazibuko) is excited about Ramphele,” Wilmot said.

Mazibuko recently said at the launch of her unauthorised biography that she was aiming to be president after 2019.

Meanwhile, Wilmot said Ramphele is not yet a DA member.

“But we will take care of (her) membership as soon as possible,” he said.

This would be handled by a technical committee that would also take care of the integration process and related issues, he said.

In Gauteng, the DA yesterday announced the name of one of the confidential candidates on its provincial list for the 2014 elections: Bridget Masango.

Masango is a marketing professional and is currently working as the communications manager at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.

Previously she worked in the same capacity at the National Development Agency.
