At least 20 injured in Gauteng taxi crash

The cause of the collision was unknown and authorities were on the scene to investigate.

About 20 people were injured when two minibus taxis collided on the R550/Dan Pienaar Road in Grasmere, south of Johannesburg, on Saturday morning, Gauteng paramedics said.

ER24 Vaal and South crews as well as various other services attended to the accident, ER24 spokeswoman Chitra Bodasing said.

“Upon arrival at the scene paramedics found several people scattered on the road and embankment as well as walking around. It is understood that some of the patients had been ejected from the vehicles. Upon assessment of the patients it was found that a woman believed to be in her 30s sustained critical injuries.

“All other patients sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were treated and transported by the various services to local hospitals for further medical care.”

The cause of the collision was unknown and authorities were on the scene to investigate, Bodasing said.
