A man wanted in connection with the murders of six people has been arrested in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, police said on Saturday.

The 25-year-old man was alleged to have butchered a woman and her five children, aged between two and 14, in the Mzinyathi area in KwaZulu-Natal in December 2012, said Colonel Jay Naicker.

“It is alleged that he robbed the family who are his relatives and killed them to cover up the robbery,” said Naicker.

The man allegedly fled the country after the incident and was arrested on Friday when he came to Matatiele to visit his relatives.

He was expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he would face six counts of murder.
